Occupational First Aid

Overview:

This course gives participants the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response in complex incidents/emergencies where an ambulance may be some time away. This course also teaches participants how to establish and manage the workplace first aid room. Participants will learn how to utilise specialised first aid equipment; stabilise a casualty where medical aid has been delayed; maintain life in an unconscious casualty with the use of oxygen equipment; and operate a defibrillator unit in order to maintain life in an adult casualty in cardiac arrest.

Pre-requisites: 

Participants must have basic computer skills and access to a reliable computer with internet and email access. As an assessment requirement of the HLTAID009 unit, participants must be able to perform at least 2 minutes (5 cycles) of CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin that is placed on the floor.

Licence & Regulatory Requirements: 

It is recommended by industry councils and legislation that this course is renewed every 3 years (HLTAID009 & HLTAID015 every 12 months) to remain up to date with the latest guidelines.

On successful completion participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment with the following units: (HLTSS00068 Occupational First Aid Skill Set)

HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid
HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources

Pre-course work:

Online/self-paced training (approximately 6-9 hours depending on the individual student and their personal circumstances and other commitments) this training involves reading, activities and exams. Online training must be completed prior to the face to face training.

Face-to-face work:

1 day face-to-face practical training.

Fees include all assessments and resources required in the classroom- students should wear appropriate clothing to kneel and bend in to complete practical.
