This nationally recognised course is ideal for educators, childcare workers, and support staff responsible for the wellbeing of children and infants in education and care settings. It is also highly relevant for individuals involved in community groups or sporting organisations that work with young children.

HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting, provides participants with the critical skills and knowledge needed to respond effectively to a range of first aid emergencies involving children, including asthma, anaphylaxis, febrile convulsions, fever, vomiting, and dehydration. The course incorporates the full content of HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid, with an added emphasis on child and infant-specific scenarios and care techniques.

Participants will engage in hands-on practical training with an experienced instructor, preparing them to deliver immediate and confident care in emergency situations until professional medical help arrives.

Approved by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA), HLTAID012 meets the requirements under the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations for first aid, emergency asthma management, and anaphylaxis training.

For those in leadership or compliance roles, such as childcare centre managers or health and safety officers, we recommend considering the nationally recognised 22702VIC Course in Emergency Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies in the Workplace (formally 22556VIC) and 22578VIC Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis. These specialist courses provide additional knowledge and skills in managing medical risks and are particularly valuable for individuals responsible for developing or overseeing health management plans and emergency procedures in education and care settings. On successful completion, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment with the following units:

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting

Participants must have basic computer skills and access to a reliable computer with internet and email access.

The training package for this course requires participants to perform at least 2 minutes (5 cycles) of CPR on adult, child, and infant resuscitation manikins positioned on the floor.

Licence & Regulatory Requirements

It is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) that HLTAID012 and HLTAID011 is completed every 3 years to remain current with the ARC guidelines.

It is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) that HLTAID009 is completed every 12 months to remain current with the ARC guidelines.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Due to industry and/or licensing requirements RPL is not offered for this statement of attainment.

Public Bookings

Pre-course work:

Online/self-paced training (approximately 3-6 hours depending on the individual student and their personal circumstances and other commitments). This online training involves reading interactive modules and then using this information to complete exams. Online training must be completed prior to the face-to-face training.

Face-to-face work:

4 hours face-to-face (approximately) your trainer will deliver practical training.
