This qualification is designed for individuals who play, or aspire to play, an active role in building safer workplaces. This nationally recognised qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to contribute to workplace health and safety systems, identify and manage risks, support incident response procedures, and assist with compliance obligations under current WHS legislation.
This qualification is ideal for people who are actively in the workforce seeking to move into, or progress within, WHS roles across a wide range of industries—such as security, construction, mining, manufacturing, hospitality, transport, health care, and more. Whether you are currently working in a hands-on operational role or stepping into a supervisory or coordinator position, this course provides practical, job-ready skills that employers value.
Throughout the course, students gain the confidence to support safety practices in real-world environments, contribute to WHS planning and continuous improvement, and work collaboratively with teams to reduce workplace incidents. Graduates will be equipped with essential knowledge that supports both compliance and a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture.
On successful completion, participants will be issued with a qualification certificate listing the following units:
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, participants may find it beneficial to be currently employed in a workplace health and safety, supervisory, leadership, or operational role where they have access to real workplace environments and WHS practices.
This supports the practical elements of the course and enhances the student’s ability to apply WHS concepts in real-time.
Learners should also possess basic computer and literacy skills, as this qualification requires online study, participation in assessments, and reading workplace documentation.
There are no specific licensing, legislative, or certification requirements attached to the BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety at the time of publication.
However, WHS professionals must still comply with workplace obligations and industry-specific regulatory requirements, which vary across Australian states and territories. Students should refer to the relevant regulator for information regarding WHS responsibilities, high-risk work licensing, and sector-specific obligations:

This course delivered through a flexible 12-month, self-paced online program supported by qualified trainers and assessors.
Students can study at their own pace with access to all learning materials and assessments via the online student portal. We recommend allocating 12–25 hours per week depending on your experience, literacy level, and familiarity with WHS concepts.
Students may progress faster by dedicating additional time to their studies, as each module unlocks once the previous assessment is submitted.
Online training involves working through learning materials, completing theory assessments, workplace-based activities, and scenario-based tasks. Some assessments require demonstration of practical skills (e.g., consultation, hazard identification) which may involve interaction with others and video submission.
Students receive ongoing support from qualified assessors through the student portal, including clarification on course content, assessment guidance, and feedback.
Students have 12 months from enrolment to complete all course components. Extensions may be available in certain circumstances in line with our policy.
