This course is for participants whose employer requires them to carry batons and handcuffs whilst performing their security duties – those who carry batons or handcuffs must complete the required training and be authorised by their employer to carry and have a genuine reason to carry and use.

Our experienced trainer covers the legalities and the skills and knowledge required to present and control a person using batons and handcuffs. Participants will gain practical experience using batons and handcuffs in a simulated environment.

For those wishing to add Cash in Transit function to their Queensland Security Class 1 Licence – enrol in our Cash in Transit course.

On successful completion, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment with the following units:

CPPSEC3110 Control persons using batons
CPPSEC3111 Restrain persons using handcuffs

There are no formal prerequisites for enrolment in this course.

Participants must have sufficient skills to read, write and communicate in English.

Students undertaking this course would typically already hold a current Queensland Security Provider Licence or have completed the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, as this training is intended for licensed security personnel seeking additional skills and knowledge in the use of batons and handcuffs.

Please note that completing this training does not, by itself, authorise you to carry or use batons or handcuffs in the workplace. To lawfully carry or use these items while performing security duties, you must have a genuine occupational need and hold written authorisation from your employer.

Licence & Regulatory Requirements

This course is not a licensed course. However, industry recommendation is to complete refresher training every 2 years to maintain current with skills and industry knowledge.

Note for International Students – we are not CRICOS registered, please check your visa requirements for enrolment. We cannot accept international students who are on a student visa if your visa specifies that you must study with a CRICOS provider.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is not offered for the Baton and Handcuff course (CPPSEC3110 | CPPSEC3111). The Queensland Office of Fair Trading and industry standards require these units to be completed through formal, practical training and assessment to ensure participants demonstrate safe, lawful, and competent use of defensive equipment.
