Career Start Program
Get Started in the Security Industry with Government-Funded Training
The Career Start program, funded by the Queensland Government, helps eligible individuals begin their careers by subsidising their first vocational qualification. Under this program, the Australian Training Institute has been approved as a Skills Assure Supplier (SAS) to deliver:
CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations
Your first step to becoming a licensed Security Officer in Queensland.
What is the Career Start Program?
The Career Start Program (2025–2028) is part of the Queensland Government’s initiative to boost employment outcomes by supporting eligible individuals to complete their first post-school qualification. It replaces the previous Certificate 3 Guarantee and is designed to equip you with essential skills for in-demand jobs.
By participating in Career Start, students can expect to build the skills and confidence needed to complete a qualification and take meaningful steps toward their career goals.
This means reduced training costs for students looking to enter the security industry with formal qualifications.

Pricing
Even with government funding, a small co-contribution fee applies to all Career Start students.
This fee can be paid by an employer, a family member, a friend, or another organisation, but it cannot be paid or waived by the SAS. Co-contribution is payable prior at enrolment prior to commencement of the course.
Course | Funded Units |
Co-contribution Fee concessional | Co-contribution Fee non-concessional |
---|---|---|---|
CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations | 14 | $14 ($1 per unit) | $42 ($3.00 per unit) |
