This course has been designed to introduce you to the relevant Queensland legislation, accepted practices, and safety procedures that are used on coal and metalliferous mining sites in order to create and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
This course focuses on the health and safety of all people who work on, visit, or supply materials and services to a mine site. The Standard 11 is the current requirement for anyone wishing to work in the Queensland mining industry. Participants will gain the fundamental skills and knowledge to carry out hazard identification, risk control, use and control of hazardous substances, as well as the skills and knowledge required to escape from hazardous situations unaided in underground metalliferous mining sites.
On successful completion, participants will be issued with a Statement of Completion with the following units:
Participants are then required to complete a work experience logbook signed off by a supervisor in the mining industry to obtain a Statement of Attainment.
New Entrants will be required to complete a on-site mine verification logbook signed off by a mining site supervisor (in addition to the training component).
Students have 6 months from the date they receive the logbook to complete and submit it.
Participants must have access to a reliable computer with email and internet access to complete the pre-course online training.
Licence & Regulatory Requirements
It is industry recommendation that participants who obtain these competencies complete recertification training every 5 years.

This course is run as a blend of online/self-paced learning and face-to-face training.
Pre-course work:
Online/self-paced training. This training involves reading through manuals and completing online written exams. Online training must be completed prior to the face-to-face training.
Face-to-face work:
Half-day classroom practical training.
New entrants will be required to complete an on-site mine verification logbook signed off by a mining site supervisor (in addition to the training component).
Students have 6 months from the date of enrolment to complete the online training portion of the course. Support for this online training is done via email with an assessor.
