Study Mode: Online Only
This nationally accredited training course is delivered entirely online and equips participants with the skills and knowledge required to inspect, maintain and test a range of height safety equipment. The course covers essential tasks such as inspecting equipment, testing its functionality, identifying faults, maintaining records, and cleaning, maintaining and correctly re-stowing tools, devices and equipment.
This course provides nationally recognised training relevant to the inspection of height safety equipment and the competent person requirements commonly applied under Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 1891.4 Industrial fall-arrest systems and devices – Selection, use and maintenance. Successful completion of the course provides formal training in equipment inspection; however, competency is determined through a combination of training, knowledge and practical experience.
While the course provides formal training and certification in height safety equipment inspection, participants should also have practical experience using such equipment. Real-world exposure helps develop familiarity with common faults, signs of wear and potential damage, allowing inspectors to make informed decisions regarding equipment serviceability.
An online practical assessment is included as part of the course. This involves submitting a video demonstration showing correct cleaning and inspection techniques.
The course focuses on inspecting standard height safety equipment, including:
Please note: Organisations may have specific policies that require additional training beyond what is covered in this course.
This course focuses on standard height safety equipment and does not specifically cover specialised confined space rescue equipment such as rescue tripods, retrieval winches or rescue systems. For more complex or specialised equipment, additional training, manufacturer-specific instruction or workplace authorisation may be required. Participants should consult the equipment manufacturer to ensure they meet any applicable inspection, maintenance and competency requirements.

Please note: While the unit PUAEQU001 Prepare, maintain and test response equipment lists PUAFIR210 Prevent injury as a prerequisite on training.gov.au, this requirement only applies to individuals undertaking the unit as part of a fire qualification or within the fire sector.
For students completing this unit as a standalone course specialising in height safety equipment inspection, PUAFIR210 Prevent injury is not required.
Regulatory Requirements
No mandatory refresher training period is specified for PUAEQU001. However, organisations may choose to periodically reassess the competency of personnel responsible for inspecting height safety equipment. Refresher training requirements may be determined by employer policies, client requirements, manufacturer recommendations, site-specific procedures or organisational requirements.
Course Price $219.00
Course fees cover all assessments and online resources. However, students must supply their own selected piece of equipment—along with any necessary cleaning products—for the practical cleaning and inspection assessment component.
