Under the Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008, all high occupancy buildings are legally required to appoint a Fire Safety Adviser (FSA). If you have been appointed to this role, or need to train staff in this role—this course is for you.

Who Should Book into Fire Safety Adviser Training?
Anyone who has been, or plans to be, appointed as a Fire Safety Adviser. This course is required to perform the role and is recognised across Queensland. It is important to note that while refresher training for this course is every 3 years, if you are a Fire Safety Adviser who also serves as a Fire Warden or Chief Warden within your workplace, you should complete separate refresher training for your Fire Warden or Chief Fire Warden duties to stay up to date with industry requirements.

Already Completed This Course?
If you hold a current Fire Safety Adviser certificate (within the past 3 years), you are eligible for our Fire Safety Adviser Refresher course.

It is important to note that while refresher training for this course is every 3 years, if you are a Fire Safety Adviser who also serves as a Fire Warden or Chief Warden within your workplace, you should complete separate refresher training for your Fire Warden or Chief Fire Warden duties to stay up to date with industry requirements.

On successful completion, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment with the following units:

Participants must have basic computer skills and access to a reliable computer with internet, email access, and access to Microsoft Word software.

Licence & Regulatory Requirements

In Queensland, the requirement for Fire Safety Advisers (FSAs) to complete refresher training every three years is stipulated in Section 34 of the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 (QLD):

Section 34 Appointment of fire safety advisers for high occupancy buildings

(1) Subject to subsections (3) and (4), the occupier of a high occupancy building must appoint a person who holds a current building fire safety qualification as the fire safety adviser for the building.

(6) In this section – current building fire safety qualification means a building fire safety qualification issued within the last 3 years.

Fees include all assessments and resources needed to complete the course.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is not available for the Fire Safety Adviser Refresher course due to statutory and safety-critical requirements. Completing the full refresher ensures all participants maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in line with Queensland legislation and industry standards.

Option 1 – Public Course:

Pre-course work:

Online/self-paced training (approximately 5-7 hours depending on the individual learner and their personal circumstances and other commitments) this training involves reading, assessment activities and exams. Online training must be completed 2 days prior to coming in for the face-to-face training component.

Face-to-face training:

1 day face-to-face practical training.

Option 2 – Group bookings only:

Blended delivery or 2 days face-to-face.
