This course is the minimum requirement that will enable participants to apply for a Queensland Private Investigator Security Licence. Private investigators are required in both civil and criminal investigations and are employed on a contract or in-house basis by both private and government organisations. Students will gain the knowledge and skills required to carry out the investigative tasks of a Private Investigator.

Employment could be gained in the following areas:

  • Workers compensation investigation
  • General insurance investigation
  • Motor vehicle accident CTP investigation
  • Public liability investigation
  • Local, state and federal government investigation
  • Plaintiff investigation
  • Criminal defence investigation
  • Locate missing people

On successful completion, participants will be issued with a Certificate with the following units:

Participants must have basic computer skills and access to a reliable computer with internet and email access. As some assessments require an audio/visual submission, participants must also be able to record themselves using a method where they can be seen and heard clearly.

Some assessments in this course will require students to interact with other participants, where they will perform a specific role during the assessment. These participants can be co-workers, family or friends. For one assessment, students will require access to a volunteer who can speak a second language, as well as an interpreter who will be able to interpret that language for the student in an interview scenario. As part of the practical assessment, students will be required to operate a vehicle (car) unsupervised (Provisional or Open licence).

Licence & Regulatory Requirements

All Queensland Security Licenses are administered by the Office of Fair Trading.

All participants are encouraged to read through the requirements of a QLD Security Licence Application, as there is additional requirements & fees payable to Office of Fair Trading.

For example, participants must be over the age of 18, must be a fit and proper person, cannot have had any Disqualifying Offences under the criminal code in the last 10 years.

This course is run as a blend of online/self-paced learning and face-to-face training.

Online training + 1 day of practical training in the classroom. We recommend 12-25 hours of study per week (depending on your individual skills and previous experience) to be on track for completion within 12 months. Students have 12 months from date of enrolment to complete the course.

You will have access to all your learning resources and assessments via your online portal and can start your online training as soon as you complete payment for the course. Students have the opportunity to accelerate their learning by dedicating more than the recommended hours of study per week to this course to finish sooner than the 12 month timeframe.

Online/self-paced training involves reading through the student manual and other study materials and completing theory and case scenarios assessments. Some assessments in this course will require students to interact with other participants as part of the assessment (e.g. conducting interviews). These assessments are to be filmed and submitted for marking by the assessor.

Support for this online training is done via email with an assessor.

All online assessments must be completed prior to the face-to-face training.

Certificate 3 Guarantee Program

Certificate III qualifications are targeted as they are considered the entry-level qualification most often needed to gain employment in many industry sectors. We have a range of different courses to choose from, and if you meet the eligibility criteria, you can do a Certificate III qualification from just $13*.

The Queensland Government subsidises the cost of undertaking an approved qualification, however all learners must contribute by paying a co-contribution fee.

Am I Eligible?

To be eligible to receive the Certificate 3 Guarantee, Students must:

  • Be a Queensland resident
  • Be aged 15 years or over, and no longer at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students)
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
  • Not hold, or be enrolled in, a certificate III level or higher qualification (not including qualifications completed at school and foundations skills training)

 

Eligibility for concessional payment

Under the Certificate 3 Guarantee program, concessional students are defined as:

    • Students (or their partner or guardian) who hold a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card;
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students;
    • School students enrolled in a VETiS program;
    • Students with a disability; or
    • Students who are adult prisoners

 

However Certificate III Qualifications completed while at school and foundation skills courses are not counted and you will still be eligible. Employment status does not matter.
