This course is for those wishing to apply for a Queensland Bodyguard Licence. A bodyguard’s job is to protect the personal safety of a specific individual.

This qualification specifies the outcomes required to ensure the safety of persons at risk under various security assignment conditions. It requires the ability to plan and prepare security arrangements, implement security and safety policies during escort activities, and monitor and review the effectiveness of the security assignment.

If you are new to the security industry and do not yet have your Queensland Class 1 Security Licence, have a look at CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations.

On successful completion, participants will be issued with a Certificate with the following units:

Core Units

  • CPPSEC3101 Manage conflict and security risks using negotiation
  • CPPSEC3103 Determine and implement response to security risk situation
  • CPPSEC3105 Coordinate provision of quality security services to clients
  • CPPSEC3121 Control persons using empty hand techniques
  • CPPSEC3122 Plan provision of close protection services
  • CPPSEC3123 Implement close protection services
  • HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid
  • HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety

Elective Units

  • BSBFLM312 Contribute to team effectiveness
  • CHCCCS020 Respond effectively to behaviours of concern
  • CPPSEC3102 Maintain operational safety and security of work environment
  • CPPSEC3104 Coordinate monitoring and control of individual and crowd behaviour
  • CPPSEC3106 Gather, organise and present security information and documentation
  • CPPSEC3108 Store, protect and dispose of security information

As an assessment requirement of the HLTAID014 unit, participants must be able to perform at least 2 minutes (5 cycles) of CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin that is placed on the floor.

Participants must have sufficient skills to read, write and communicate in English, and have access to a computer with internet access and Microsoft Word.

Participants must also be physically fit, and able to perform defensive tactic techniques.

Licence & Regulatory Requirements

All Queensland Security Licenses are administered by the Office of Fair Trading.

All participants are encouraged to read through the requirements of a QLD Security Licence Application, as there is additional requirements & fees payable to Office of Fair Trading.

For example, participants must be over the age of 18, must be a fit and proper person, cannot have had any Disqualifying Offences under the criminal code in the last 10 years.

This course is delivered through a combination of online/self-paced learning and face-to-face classroom training.

  • Online Training: Approximately 15–20 hours per unit (14 units in total). Time commitment may vary depending on each student’s background and prior experience.

  • Classroom Training: 3-day, in-person practical session.

Online Component Details

Upon enrolment, students are granted full access to all course materials and assessments. Modules are sequentially unlocked—each new module becomes available after you submit your assessment of the previous one.

Students progress through the online component at their own pace, which includes:

  • Studying course material through the Certificate III in Close Protection Operations Student Manual

  • Completing written and case scenario-based assessments

Students receive support from a qualified assessor via the use of throughout the online training component.

Classroom Training Dates

The online component must be completed before attending the face-to-face practical training. Students will receive a prompt via their student portal once they reach a key milestone in their online work, directing them to contact us and arrange their practical training dates.
