Security Guard Weapons

This course is designed for individuals who wish to obtain a Queensland Security Guard Employee Weapons Licence and work in the security industry as an armed guard.

It covers the necessary skills and knowledge to determine when to use a firearm in response to a life-threatening situation. Participants will learn to analyse risk factors, assess the intentions of individuals, and maintain and store firearms and ammunition in accordance with legislative requirements.

The categories taught include Cat C (shotguns), Cat E (bulletproof vests and body armour), and Cat H (handguns).

Holders of a Queensland Security Guard Employee Licence are required to complete annual recertification to maintain their licence. If you already possess a Security Guard Weapons Licence (QLD) and need a refresher, you can enrol in the Weapons Licence Annual Refresher Course.

On successful completion, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment with the following unit:

CPPSEC3101 Manage conflict and security risks using negotiation
CPPSEC3102 Maintain operational safety and security of the work environment
CPPSEC3103 Determine and implement response to security risk situation
CPPSEC3114 Control security risk situations using firearms
CPPSEC3115 Carry, operate and maintain revolvers for security purposes
CPPSEC3116 Carry, operate and maintain semi-automatic pistols for security purposes
CPPSEC3117 Carry, operate and maintain shotguns for security purposes

For licensing requirements, participants are required to hold a current Queensland Security Licence with Class: Cash In transit.

Participants must have sufficient skills to read, write and communicate in English, and have access to a computer with internet access and Microsoft Word.

Licence & Regulatory Requirements

The Security Licence (Guard) – Employee (Cat C, E & H) permits you to carry a weapon while performing security guard duties for a licensed security organisation. However, it does not grant you the authority to acquire firearms.

All Weapon Licenses are administered by Queensland Police – Weapons Licensing.

Fees include all assessments and resources needed to complete the course.

Note for International Students – we are not CRICOS registered, please check your visa requirements for enrolment.  We cannot accept international students who are on a student visa if your visa specifies that you must study with a CRICOS provider.

Pre-course work:

Online/self-paced training. This training involved reading a student manual and completing written assessments. Online training must be completed prior to the face to face training.

Face-to-face work:

4 days classroom (including a practical shoot at a range on the final day)

Due to the volume of online training required for this course, students are required to enrol at least one week prior to the commencement of the classroom training session.

Government Funding is currently not available for this Course.
