Licence & Regulatory Requirements
To work as an Armed Security Guard or perform Cash in Transit (CIT) duties in Queensland, you must hold the appropriate security and weapons licences.

Participants are required to obtain a Security Guard (Employee) Weapons Licence to lawfully carry a weapon while performing duties for a licensed security firm. This includes roles involving Category C (shotguns), Category E (body armour), and Category H (handguns). However, please note that this licence does not authorise you to acquire firearms—only to carry and use them in the course of your licensed duties.

Licensing is regulated by two authorities:

  • Security Licences (Employee Licence) are administered by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT)
  • Weapons Licences are administered by Queensland Police – Weapons Licensing

Before applying, we strongly recommend that all participants review the eligibility requirements outlined by both agencies. Key criteria include:

  • Being 18 years of age or older
  • Being a fit and proper person
  • Having no disqualifying offences under the Criminal Code in the last 10 years
  • Additional identity checks, fees, and documentation may apply

Failure to meet these conditions may affect your ability to obtain the necessary licences. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with both Security Licence and Weapons Licence application processes prior to enrolment.
